Food Science National Strength
Food science and engineering is BTBU’s flagship discipline, ranked among China’s strongest and backed by national-level research platforms.

Where food science, light industry and business meet — in the capital since 1950
Beijing Technology and Business University (BTBU) took its present form in June 1999 through the merger of the Beijing Institute of Light Industry, Beijing Business College and the Beijing Institute of Mechanical Management, with roots reaching back to 1950. Administered by the Beijing Municipal Government as a municipal key university, BTBU is unusual in China for pairing light-industry engineering with commerce: food science and engineering, food nutrition and safety, flavours, fragrances and cosmetics technology, environmental engineering, accounting, business administration and applied economics all sit within one institution. Teaching is concentrated on the Liangxiang campus in Fangshan District, with the Fucheng Road campus in Haidian used for graduate and executive programs. For international students, BTBU offers a practical, industry-connected route into a Beijing degree at tuition levels well below the city’s 985 universities, with Chinese-taught degrees, English-taught graduate options and a well-established Chinese language program.
