Shanghai University of Engineering Science

Shanghai’s applied engineering university — engineering, management and design built with industry since 1978

Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES) traces its origins to 1978, when the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Mechanical and Electrical Branch and a branch of the East China Institute of Textile Technology were established, and was formally founded as SUES in 1985. It is a Shanghai municipal university organised around an unusual “Engineering + Management + Design” model, with roughly 64 undergraduate majors, 15 first-level master’s disciplines and a doctoral program, spread across the main Songjiang campus in Shanghai’s university town and the Changning and Hongkou campuses closer to the city centre. Its defining feature is industry-education integration: SUES co-operates the School of Urban Railway Transportation with Shanghai Shentong Metro and the School of Air Transportation with China Eastern Airlines, so teaching runs alongside real operators through dual industry-and-faculty supervision and full-post internships. For international students, SUES is the practical choice when the goal is an employable engineering, transport, materials, design or business degree in Shanghai at accessible tuition and entry requirements rather than admission to a 985 research university, with English-taught bachelor’s tracks and more than 600 international students from over 60 countries on campus.
